Free Speech Under Assault as Company Pulls Hosting from Controversial Website

The war on the First Amendment continues to rage on as the events in Charlottesville this weekend have given a green light to those who want to censor every viewpoint that they don’t agree with and economic terrorism is the left’s weapon of choice.

Hosting company GoDaddy has given the heave ho to the white nationalist website the Daily Stormer which features a vile, bigoted and sensationalist variety of stories targeting a specific audience comprised of white supremacists and other haters. It is the latest in the ongoing war on free speech being waged by internet companies and social media giants to purge what is an increasingly vaguely defined set of taboo opinions and independent media stories labeled as fake news.

As was seen by the recent firing of an engineer at Google who criticized the corporation’s fanatical policies on forced diversity which have been described as akin to that of a cult, the big tech companies are hostile to the extreme to any viewpoint that isn’t compatible with the zealots on the left.

According to Reuters “GoDaddy boots white supremacist web site after offensive post”:

The web hosting company GoDaddy said on Sunday it had given The Daily Stormer 24 hours to move its domain to another provider after the extremist web site posted an article denigrating the woman who was killed at a white nationalist rally in Virginia.

“We informed The Daily Stormer that they have 24 hours to move the domain to another provider, as they have violated our terms of service,” GoDaddy posted on its official Twitter page.

The Daily Stormer post in question denigrated Heather Heyer, 32, who was fatally struck by a car allegedly driven by a man with white nationalist views, for her physical appearance and what it said were anti-white male views.

The Daily Stormer is a neo-Nazi, white supremacist website associated with the alt-right movement, which was spearheading the rally on Saturday in Charlottesville, Virginia which resulted in violence, including Heyer’s death.

GoDaddy, founded in 1997 and based in Arizona, has some 6,000 employees worldwide.

While I am no fan of the Daily Stormer and vehemently disagree with the type of sentiment that appears there, this is a shot across the bow at websites that offer more mainstream conservative views and commentary as well as those which are supportive of President Trump.

For those who have been paying attention, the nebulous “Alt-Right” continues to expand so as to be a catch-all category for sentiment that ranges from criticism of U.S. foreign policy, those who question the Russian conspiracy theories on election meddling, hostility to Hillary Clinton and most of all, the America first sentiment that Trump used to appeal to enough people to be elected as President of the United States.

It also needs to be stated that GoDaddy had no problem whatsoever taking the Daily Stormer’s money up until Sunday despite content that could be described as racist and anti-Semitic if not outright neo-Nazi. This website didn’t just suddenly pop up on Saturday. While many will say that as a corporation that GoDaddy has the right to terminate any arrangements with customers that it chooses at any time but this is a far larger and more dangerous trend that is emerging in terms of censorship.

This is an outrageous attempt to exploit the death of one activist who whether knowingly or unknowingly was a part of an organized effort by extreme left elements to provoke violence at a rally that was protected by the First Amendment.

Charlottesville perfectly fits the Rahm Emanuel maxim of never let a good crisis “go to waste” and the shutting down of all forums supportive of the legitimately elected POTUS is the ultimate goal.

Free speech advocates everywhere should support the Daily Stormer despite its disgusting content because once they are able to be successfully shut down – who will be next?

To cite the famous words of Pastor Martin Niemöller who witnessed firsthand the closing down of German society under the Nazis:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

The question that needs to be asked is when are they coming for you?

The left and those who support a new authoritarian era need to understand that you can’t pick and choose who has the right to free speech. It’s either everyone or no one.
