Knucklehead Of The Week: Everyone Accepts That Jussie Smollett Is Guilty… Except For Jussie Smollett
There are some weeks for which it is painful to be a conservative. The week of Election Day 2020 was one such week, and so was the week of January 6th, earlier this year. And then… then there are weeks for which it is absolutely glorious to be a conservative. Such weeks include instances when our allies are vindicated, or perhaps our conservative ideals are validated. Or better still, every once in a while, we are treated to a week in which we see an individual who is wholly representative of everything wrong with our ideological opponents being given his/her just desserts. Such was the case this week, and we can thank the incomparable Jussie Smollett for that intense
satisfaction we are experiencingt.
Winner: Jussie Smollett is found guilty but continues to double-down by claiming his innocence.
Former Empire actor Jussie Smollett should have complied with The First Rule of Holes, which states: “When you’re in one, stop digging.” And while there are many reasons to honor Mr. Smollett as this week’s top knucklehead, it is his insistence on ignoring reality which we cite as the top rationale.
The staged incident that started this whole affair happened in January 2019, almost three years ago now, when Smollett contacted Chicago police in the wee hours of a morning with frigid temperatures and gusting winds. His story was so laughable it could have been from a Saturday Night Live skit; an old SNL skit from the 1970s through 1990s when it was still funny.
Smollett, who is black and gay, told police that two white guys wearing MAGA hats attacked him as he left a Subway restaurant, calling him racial and anti-gay slurs, and exclaiming “This is MAGA country!” The attackers, according to Smollett, physically assaulted him, but only mildly, and threw a noose around his neck before leaving him. When police arrived at Smollett’s residence, he was chowing down on that same sandwich from Subway, and he still had the aforementioned noose around his neck.
First of all, the idea that there are any such Pro-Trump zealots in downtown Chicago defies logic. Second, no one in their right mind is patrolling the streets of Chicago for anything in single-digit temperatures at that time of night, let alone looking for young, gay black men to terrorize. Third, even if there were such people, they wouldn’t be carrying around a faux noose to use as a prop. And finally, if someone attacks and assaults you, chances are they’re not going to allow you to simply keep your sub sandwich. None of it added up, but that was Jussie Smollett’s story.
The left and their media ate it up, because everything Smollett claimed fit their narrative perfectly: Gay black men are victims, and straight, white men who support Donald Trump are victimizers. They dismissed the obvious flaws in his story and took Smollett’s bait: hook, line and sinker. Then-presidential candidate Kamala Harris called it a “modern day lynching.” Al Sharpton called for the maximum penalty for the perpetrators. Pete Buttigieg called it a horrible attack. And Eric Swalwell called the alleged attack “vile” and “tragic.” It was obvious from the very beginning that the story was bogus, but the left was all-in on Smollett’s claim, and Smollett continued to promote his tale.
While the establishment media stood their ground and trumpeted Smollett’s collapsing story, the rest of us couldn’t stop laughing. Personalities such as Charles Barkley and Dave Chappelle hilariously hammered away at Smollett. Each social media post and meme was funnier than the next. We all knew it was a hoax, the gig was up from the get-go. But Smollett continued to profess his innocence.
Eventually, virtually all of Smollett’s backers abandoned him. When we became aware of the two Nigerian brothers who helped him stage the attack, some on the left came out and denounced Smollett, but most merely shut up and hoped we’d all forget about the story. But not Smollett.
He continued to claim his story was true. When prosecutor Kim Foxx decided not to charge Smollett, the actor gave us the old, ‘I told you so’ routine. Then, after a special prosecutor was appointed and moved forward with charging him, Smollett stood his ground and predicted he’s be found innocent. Then during his trial, Smollett inexplicably took to the witness stand and decided to lecture the prosecutor, making a fool of himself in the process.
And then, at long last, the coup de grâce. After Smollett’s verdict was announced late-Thursday, with the actor having been found guilty of five of the six charges brough against him, his lawyer informed us that Smollett will be appealing his conviction, stating, “We feel 100 percent confident that this case will be won on appeal.” Right. Sure you do.
Jussie Smollett should be mortified, and maybe he is. He is now a convicted felon, and he may yet end up behind bars when he’s sentenced next month. He staged one of the most outrageous and ridiculous hoaxes we’ve ever seen, and everyone knows it, including Smollett himself. You’re a despicable person, Jussie. You made an idiotic decision and tried to personally benefit from demonizing half the country (Trump supporters) with your lies. You should own up to your mistake and accept your punishment. And until you do, you are a knucklehead.
Honorable Mention #1: Hillary Clinton reads her would-be presidential victory speech on camera.
For those wondering why Mrs. Clinton won’t just go away, we have no reasonable explanation. Your guess is as good as ours. We became aware of Hillary’s recitation of her speech on Wednesday when footage showed Mrs. Clinton reading from her prepared speech and speaking to her thought processes behind the content. Many have remarked on Hillary’s weeping during portions of her reading, but those tears are not what earns Mrs. Clinton her spot here. Hillary finds herself as Honorable Mention for the week’s top knucklehead for even reading the speech in the first place. Who thought this was a good idea?
In a way, we should be grateful that Hillary agreed to do it. To paraphrase John Bradford, “There but for the grace of God go we.” Hillary’s ‘victory speech’ reminds us of the nightmare we would have experienced if she’d won instead of Trump in 2016. It reminds of what an utterly unlikeable and dishonest narcissist she is. And her speech reminds us of how fortunate we all are that enough Americans had the good sense to reject her. We do have one request for our friends in the mainstream media, however: Next time, can you please ask Hillary to read the statement she planned to make to the court during her sentencing hearing if we’d actually had an honest Justice Department?
Honorable Mention #2: USA Today runs story with headline, ‘Is Math Racist?’
In the article, as you have probably already surmised, the leftwing newspaper examines whether poor results in standardized mathematics tests by certain minority groups is due to some sort of unfair, discriminatory approach to the education and testing of those poor-performing students. This mindset is typical of the left: don’t hold individuals responsible for their achievements, or lack thereof, blame someone or something else. A strong argument can be made that such a mentality is itself racist, implying that the test score bar should be adjusted for these students based on their skin color.
But the USA Today article tells a broader tale of idiocy. No, USA Today, math isn’t racist because math is inanimate. It’s an activity or a field of study. Mathematics can be no more racist than that frame containing that undeserved college degree hanging on your wall or that meth pipe that’s apparently regularly passed around by members of your editorial team. Math isn’t racist, just like bowling balls and bicycles aren’t racist, because math is incapable of reasoning. Just like the knuckleheads who wrote your article.
