White House ‘Confident’ Kavanaugh Will Be Confirmed after FBI completes investigation

The White House is confident that, with the completion of the FBI’s supplemental investigation into Judge Brett Kavanaugh, President Trump’s nominee to the Supreme Court will be confirmed by the Senate.

“This is the last addition to the most comprehensive review of a Supreme Court nominee in history, which includes extensive hearings, multiple committee interviews, over 1,200 questions for the record and over a half million pages of documents,” said White House Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah. “With this additional information, the White House is fully confident the Senate will vote to confirm Judge Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.”

To prevent a leak of the FBI report, Senators were provided access in a Secure Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) to a single copy of the document. This will allow the members to review the information in the report, but not obtain a copy that would surely be leaked to the press should they be given the opportunity.

President Trump also weighed in on Thursday morning saying that voters have seen the unfair manner in which Kavanaugh was treated and that it will have an impact in the upcoming elections.

“The harsh and unfair treatment of Judge Brett Kavanaugh is having an incredible upward impact on voters,” he posted on Twitter. “The PEOPLE get it far better than the politicians. Most importantly, this great life cannot be ruined by mean & despicable Democrats and totally uncorroborated allegations!”

The report comes the morning after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell filed for a Cloture vote. Just before 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time, McConnell filed a motion to end debate on Kavanaugh which will give members until early Friday to make arguments and review information in the FBI summary.

“With LeaderMcConnell’ss cloture filing, Senators have been given ample time to review this seventh background investigation,” Shah told reporters.

If a cloture vote is held and passed on Friday, Brett Kavanaugh could be confirmed this weekend.
