This Transparency is Opaque

Apparently, the term Transparency has lost its meaning. The Biden Team, going back to the campaign and continuing today, has tried to sell the story that President Trump was not transparent but had a Presidency filled with lies and mistruths. Being a political junkie, I paid attention to every aspect of the Trump years from his daily interactions with the press pool and his tweets that seemed to come at us at every hour of the day. We knew everything about the Trump Team and its plan. The media did a great job, in concert with the Democrats, downplaying, censuring, and or disclaiming every word that came out of President Trump’s mouth or typed onto his Twitter account. We knew it all. The media was given so much info from Donald Trump that without that material now, they are having a difficult time filling their time slots

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris promised everyone who would listen that they pledged to be the most transparent administration in history. That there would be no doubt or question as to their plan and actions. They have yet to live up to that pledge. From taking over 60 days to have his first press conference and now Kamala Harris going quiet for nearly three weeks after being put in charge of the Border Crisis, this transparency is definitely wearing dark glasses. President Biden is working a very limited schedule and it is very rare that we get daily updates directly from him. He rarely, and that is being generous, answer direct questions. When he makes an appearance, he makes his comments, closes his notes, and promptly walks away from the podium, with Kamala Harris quietly following behind. She is ever-present, hiding behind her mask, and ominously silent.

Jen Psaki may not be the right spokesperson

The only person that does speak freely, and sometimes sarcastically and often in a condescending tone, is spokesperson Jen Psaki. To listen to her sometimes, you would think she is not the President’s communicator but the final word. An example of how out of touch and crass Psaki is was her comments on the efforts to get the word out to more Conservatives regarding the vaccines. Her comments were so stereotypical that is was hard to believe they were coming from a seasoned political spokesperson.

Psaki was asked by a reporter how the administration was handling “rural states” like Mississippi and Oklahoma — see Trump supporters — where people don’t want to be vaccinated against COVID-19. The reporter likely more motivated by calling negative attention to this demographic than actual concern for these people..

“We’ve run PSAs on the Deadliest Catch, we’re engaged with NASCAR and Country Music TV,” Biden’s spokesperson said, after sharing some community-based efforts.

“We’re looking for a range of creative ways to get directly connected to white conservative communities. We won’t always be the best messengers, but we’re still trying to meet people where they are, but also empower local organizations,” Psaki continued.

Apparently she forgot to mention churches and bowling alleys but we will just assume she was trying to keep her answer short. Maybe she can circle back to those at a later date. We are still early into this administration but in today’s pace of happenings nationally and internationally, we will need to see a better effort towards honesty, openness and transparency sooner than later. The questions as to the mental acuity of the President is in question and the ability for Harris to be able to field questions without her nervous cackle will continue to fester unless they both take off the dark glasses and start giving the American people the straight scoop and soon. In the meantime, this Presidency seems quite comfortable talking transparency while actually keeping us all in the dark.
