Former U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions saw his comeback bid cut short by former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville.
Tuberville was backed by President Donald Trump and as a result, not only did he win, but in resounding fashion.
With a third of the vote counted, Sessions didn’t lead in a single county, at which point Sessions conceded the race to Tuberville.
“I want to congratulate Tommy Tuberville. He ran a really firm, solid race,” Sessions said earlier. “He is our Republican nominee,” Sessions said. “We must stand behind him in November.”
Tuberville will face Democrat incumbent Sen. Doug Jones in a battle that favor’s the newcomer.
Republicans now stand to gain another seat in the Senate come November.
