Former U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions saw his comeback bid cut short by former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville.
Tuberville was backed by President Donald Trump and as a result, not only did he win, but in resounding fashion.
With a third of the vote counted, Sessions didn’t lead in a single county, at which point Sessions conceded the race to Tuberville.
“I want to congratulate Tommy Tuberville. He ran a really firm, solid race,” Sessions said earlier. “He is our Republican nominee,” Sessions said. “We must stand behind him in November.”
Tuberville will face Democrat incumbent Sen. Doug Jones in a battle that favor’s the newcomer.
Republicans now stand to gain another seat in the Senate come November.Wake up Right! Subscribe to our Morning Briefing and get the news delivered to your inbox before breakfast!
