President Signs Historic Arms Agreement in Saudi Arabia

On Saturday, in a significant expansion of the seven-decade-long security relationship between the United States and Saudi Arabia, the President and Secretary Tillerson attended a signing ceremony for almost $110 Billion in Military Sales.

This package of defense equipment and services support the long-term security of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region in the face of Iranian threats, while also bolstering the Kingdom’s ability to contribute to counterterrorism operations across the region, reducing the burden on the U.S. military to conduct those operations.

The sale brings billions of dollars back into the U.S. economy creating jobs and fueling growth. This agreement also empowers Saudi Arabia to more strongly take on the Iranian threat in the region without putting American service members at risk

This package demonstrates the United States’ commitment to our partnership with Saudi Arabia and our Gulf partners, while also expanding opportunities for American companies and supporting tens of thousands of new jobs in the U.S. defense industrial base.

The president kicks off a 9-day, 5 nation foreign relations trip is Saudi Arabia including visits to the birthplaces of all three of the Abrahamic religions – Christianity, Islam, and Judaism.

“No President has ever visited the homelands and holy sites of the Jewish, Christian, and Muslims faiths all on one trip,” National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster said at a press briefing last week. “What President Trump is seeking is to unite peoples of all faiths around a common vision of peace, progress, and prosperity,”
