Sen. Chafettz takes emergency leave due to medical issue
House Oversight Chairman Jason Chafettz (R-UT) announced on that he would be taking an immediate medical leave of absence for as long as a month as ordered by doctors.
“Almost 12 years ago, I shattered several bones in my foot which required 14 screws and a metal plate to repair. Yes, I wish I could say I was cliff diving in Mexico but the truth is I fell off a ladder while repairing something in my garage. The University of Utah doctors now recommend immediate surgery to remove all the hardware or I could be at risk for serious infection,” Chaffetz wrote in the Instagram post which was accompanied by an x-ray image of his foot and the aforementioned hardware.

First, I’d like to say that Representative Jason Chaffetz is one of our finest House members. Secondly, I feel badly for the guy over this problem with his foot. The main reason I’m commenting, though, is to warn everyone who doesn’t work with ladders in their job to beware of the dangers of ladders. I was on ladders my entire career as an electrician, and we were constantly training ourselves on ladder safety. They are not something amateurs should be using carelessly. And if you’re retired, stay the heck off ladders altogether.
