Taking Georgia Senate Seat Back: Herschel Walker Looks Unstoppable

The Blue State Conservative

Democrats would have us believe that January 6th last year was one of the darkest days in American history. It wasn’t. In fact, it’s not even in the top 1,000. But it was a horrible day in another regard. It was on January 6, 2021 when we learned that in the runoff elections the day before, both U.S. Senate seats in Georgia had flipped from Republican to Democrat, including the seat won by Raphael Warnock who defeated Republican Kelly Loeffler.

With the loss of those two seats, the chamber became split evenly at 50-50, Republicans to Democrats, and with Vice-President Kamala Harris being the tie-breaking vote, this is how we ended up with Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) as the Senate Majority Leader and all the absurdities that have come along with that reality. It was, indeed, a dark day in that sense.

But in just six months, that very same seat will be up for grabs again, and this time Senator Warnock, who won by an extremely close margin last year, is facing a much more formidable opponent in Herschel Walker. Mr. Walker is not Ms. Loeffler, and it looks like Sen. Warnock is in deep trouble.

According to the Associated Press, Walker will sit out the second primary debate tonight in Georgia. He also skipped the first debate three weeks ago. Walker is not politician by trade, though it appears he has some savvy advisors whispering in his ear. Walker is the strong favorite in the primary election, and as a political novice he is undoubtedly prone to missteps and gaffes.

Therefore, what does Walker have to gain as a candidate by debating his fellow Republicans? Not much. And that’s undoubtedly why he’s sitting on the sidelines again this evening.

Walker has much in his favor with this effort to win this Senate seat, including:

– Georgia is a red state. It may not be deep red, but it’s definitely Republican-leaning.

– Democrats, thanks in large part to their insane ‘woke’ agenda and historically low approval ratings for both President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris, are down by double digits in polling for a generic Congressional ballot.

– Walker is highly recognizable and popular in Georgia as one of the greatest college football players in history at the University of Georgia, where he helped to win a national championship.

– Walker has a high level of likability, even though he lacks some polish.

Not surprisingly considering these factors, recent polling shows Walker leading Warnock by over ten points. When we consider that we’re still months away from the election and the apparent commitment by Democrats to continue pushing an unpopular agenda, it seems likely that Walker’s lead will widen. And with over 7% of voters still undecided, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Walker’s cushion inch up into the teens by the fall.

If Republicans are to retake control of both houses of Congress, Herschel Walker needs to win this seat and he seems poised to do so, which is news that should make conservative Americans smile. Walker’s rhetoric has shown him to be a solid conservative and he should be a dependable right-wing vote in the Senate for at least six years if he wins. Let’s hope the Republican establishment gives Walker the support he needs to win, and let’s hope Walker himself runs a solid campaign.
