President Joe Biden told reporters Tuesday that the United States will ban all Russian energy imports including oil, natural gas, and coal.
“This is a step we are taking to inflict further pain on Putin,” Biden said of the embargo. “But, there will be costs as well here in the United States.”
Those costs will be even higher prices on everything Americans need. From medicine to fertilizer and clothes to groceries, the cost of oil impacts every part of everyday life.
As an indication that the ban may not take effect immediately, Biden said that “our teams are actively discussing how to make this happen.” The timing of the announcement was hurried as a bipartisan group in the U.S. House of Representatives formulated a bill over the weekend that Biden needed to get in front of.
Biden spent a good portion of the announcement blaming higher prices at the pump on Putin’s actions while ignoring the harmful effects his administration’s disastrous energy policy has had on the American economy.
“It’s simply not true that my administration’s policies are holding back domestic energy production,” Biden said unconvincingly. He then went on to repeat the misleading statement that energy producers already have 9,000 leases they haven’t drilled on as if every lease is a guaranteed oil or gas producer.
While those leases exist, not all have been found to be worth exploring.
