Another Warrior in Blue Laid to Rest

When are people going to come to their senses? How can we not unite in our respect for the brave men and women who put on the blue uniform every day to protect us? These sons, daughters, husbands, and wives leave their families to defend against people who want to do us harm. They run toward danger and gunfire, willing to sacrifice their lives to keep us safe.

Some, unfortunately, do not return home to the waiting arms of their loved ones. Some, unfortunately, are carried on the shoulders of their Brothers into a church for those who loved them to celebrate their lives. These scenes of celebration and goodbye are happening far too often.

Last year was the deadliest year for American police officers in ninety years. There were 458 officers killed in the line of duty, the most losses since 1930. This year is starting at a staggering pace as we have already buried 25 officers, 14 by COVID and 11 by death under fire. These attacks are unacceptable, and every elected official at every level needs to rise in unity to put an end to this assault on law enforcement officers.

New York City is burying two young police officers this week. Officer Jason Rivera was laid to rest on Friday, and his partner, Wilbert Mora, will join him next week. These boys, both in their twenties, leave families behind. Politicians, including District Attorneys, should lose sleep over these senseless deaths.

What is lost in the story of these two recent deaths in New York is these officers were responding to a domestic disturbance. The Left, especially The Squad, who have called for defunding Police want social workers, not Police, responding to domestic calls. Should this happen, how many more victims would there be in just this one call?

Next week, the President is scheduled to visit the new Mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, who was himself a New York City Police Officer, to discuss gun safety. To use one of Biden’s lines, “you stupid son of a bitch.” Biden needs to be at the podium calling for an all-out effort to end this scourge on Police.

Biden should attend one of these funerals of an officer gunned down doing their job. He needs to redirect his support from the ignorant Squad to our Thin Blue Line. To continue to ignore this open season on Police is to be complicit with those who gun them down.

What will it take to reverse the support of criminals and the attacks on Police? Victims’ families are going to court to hold Mayors, Governors, and District Attorneys accountable for the loss of their loved ones. From no bail to releasing incarcerated prematurely, the government is fueling the fire, making the lack of safety for all of us and the deaths of our protectors a National crisis.

It doesn’t have to be so. If we let the Police do their Jobs by enforcing all laws, District Attorneys try these criminals in court, and politicians stay out of the process, we can restore safety to our neighborhoods and cities. Mr. President, the ball is in your court, don’t fumble it.
