When news broke this week that President Donald Trump wanted to plan a military parade on Pennsylvania Avenue, Democrats could not wait to ridicule the idea as insane and not worthy of the time or effort. Some spoke of how ludicrous it was, to them, that the president was rumored to have wanted military tanks and equipment at his Inauguration Day parade.
The leftist loons on late night television and CNN and MSNBC immediately brought up images of dictators in Russia and China comparing them to Trump. One CNN commentator said we are looking like North Korea all the time now.”
But history often belies Democrat claims and hysteria. That’s exactly what happened when a resurfaced video of John F. Kennedy Jr.’s military parade, which included nuclear weapons, made the rounds on social media this week.
“I want a parade like the one in France,” President Trump reportedly told a member of his staff about France’s Bastille Day parade.
And after that a staffer ran to The Washington Post to try and embarrass the president, Democrats acted like Trump’s request was unprecedented and a sign of a dictator in the making. A staffer who tries to betray the president should be fired immediately. Not only did President John F. Kennedy have military equipment at his Inauguration Day parade, he had much more than President Trump has proposed.
Among the military hardware at his parade, JFK had intercontinental ballistic nuclear missiles including Pershing and Nike Hercules missiles.
And it was not particularly unusual. President Eisenhower, before Kennedy, had an M65 Atomic Cannon and four companies of tanks.
The Inauguration Day parade of President Harry S. Truman had a squadron of B-52 bombers fly overhead.
And the hero of the Democrat Party, and the godfather of modern socialism, President Franklin D. Roosevelt had military representation at his third, of four, Inauguration Day parades, CNN reported.
There were also anti-tank guns, anti-aircraft guns, field guns, cannon and military planes flying overhead.
But now the Democrats are concerned about a military parade? Looks more like stereotypical Democrat hypocrisy.
Liberal activists are planning to lay in front of tanks if President Trump holds a military parade.
Activist Arn Menconi issued a call to action Tuesday asking for volunteers to block tanks, à la Tiananmen Square, in order to challenge Trump’s “Military Authoritarian State.”
“We now have nearly 50 Americans who have signed on to lay in front of the tanks of Trump brings out a military parade,” Menconi announced on Twitter Wednesday, comparing the event to 1989 Tiananmen Square protests in Beijing where Chinese citizens protested the Communist government’s brutal oppression.
The fact is that many on the left do not like where the idea is coming from — President Trump, as Democrats in the not-so-distant past have been very receptive to the idea of military parades.
In 2014, New York Sen. Chuck Schumer, speaking at an event in Manhattan, publicly called for a welcome home parade for veterans of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, even calling such a practice a “longstanding American tradition.”
Mayor Bill de Blasio, a far-left politician, seconded the senator’s call for a procession to celebrate veterans of the two post-9/11 wars.
“The brave men and women who have selflessly served our nation with courage and skill in Iraq and Afghanistan deserve a recognition for their sacrifice,” De Blasio stated at the time. “I stand with Senator Schumer in his call for a parade to honor our veteran heroes, and New York City would be proud to host this important event.”
The only difference is that while Schumer called for a more-or-less public thanks to veterans, Trump is seemingly looking for an overt display of military might comparable to what he saw on Bastille Day when he was in France.
If this was Clinton or Obama they would be all for it. I think Trump is playing with them like he does every time. He baits them with stories like this and they fall for it every time and come out in full showing their true colors. You’ve got to love it. Trump outsmarts them every time.
While White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders did confirm Tuesday the president had asked the Pentagon to “explore a celebration” of the military for the American people, she said the administration is currently brainstorming but there are no current plans or a date set. “President Trump is incredibly supportive of America’s great service members who risk their lives every day to keep our country safe,” White House press secretary Sanders stated in a news briefing. “He has asked the Department of Defense to explore a celebration at which all Americans can show their appreciation.”
It’s about time. Let’s show our brave men and women in uniform who fought bled and died for us that we appreciate them and not let these leftist loonies, haters of America get in the way.Wake up Right! Subscribe to our Morning Briefing and get the news delivered to your inbox before breakfast!
