Michael Bennett Calls for White Players to Join NFL National Anthem Protests

Some people just can’t avoid making everything about race and interjecting it into every aspect of the lives of Americans who have never been racist but now thanks to the media, if they are white they have the pall of suspicion over them that they may be Nazis which roughly translates into Trump supporters.

Now in an audacious move, Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman Michael Bennett who sat on his ass while the national anthem was played during the team’s exhibition season opener on Sunday night as the rest of his team stood, is giving white NFL players a chance at redemption in the eyes of the movement.

He is calling for white players to join him in taking a dump on America so that Colin Kaepernick’s noble sacrifice won’t be for naught.

As reported by ESPN “Michael Bennett: Effectiveness of anthem protests would grow with white players’ involvement”:

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett said the conversation about anthem protests would change if white players became part of the movement.

It would take a white player to really get things changed,” Bennett said Wednesday on ESPN’s SC6, “because when somebody from the other side understands and they step up and they speak up about it … it would change the whole conversation. Because when you bring somebody who doesn’t have to be a part of [the] conversation making himself vulnerable in front of it, I think when that happens, things will really take a jump.”

Bennett said he had been thinking all summer about sitting for the anthem, but he made the decision to do so for Sunday’s preseason game over the weekend, following the events in Charlottesville, Virginia. He said he plans on sitting for the anthem for the entire season and that he wanted to use his platform as an athlete to promote equality.

“Over the weekend, so much violence, so much hate,” Bennett said. “I just wanted to remember why we were American citizens, remember the freedom, the liberty and the equality, make sure we never forget that. I really wanted to honor that, the founding principles of what we’re all supposed to be. Charlottesville was so crazy, so much going on in the world now, it just made sense.”

Bennett said some players were scared off by the experience of quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who began the movement last season and is now without a job in football.

“But now, just because he’s out of the league, we didn’t want to lose that message, pushing for liberty and equality for everybody. We just wanted to keep that message alive.”

Perhaps Bennett is merely trying to save face after he was the only player on his team who put making his own selfish political statement above preparing to make a run at a Super Bowl and maybe his head is even in the right place, unfortunately, that place seems to be up his own ass.

This is really desperate but who knows, maybe he can sway some white players to take up the cause of the oppressed, anti-American, cop-hating millionaire Kaepernick but it’s doubtful that anyone will be willing to chain himself to this ridiculous man and then be subjected to the overwhelming media attention.

While this may be a shock to guys like Bennett, the majority of players actually want to do what it takes to win a Super Bowl ring and that means being a team player. As the saying goes, there is no “I” in TEAM but I might point out that there is one in Idiot.

I would personally think that it is unlikely though since the whole charade has been all about race from the moment that Kaepernick took a knee last preseason and then acted as if he were the second coming of Christ and it has been exclusionary of whites – until now.

As for Mr. Bennett, the general idea is that when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging, not ask for a bigger shovel.

  1. I understand sacrifice to be personal, honorable. Asking someone to take up action and make a sacrifice is selfish. Asking someone else to take action is also asking to commit when they’d rather not or are unwilling.
Sacrifice is spontaneous, it is not a rational decision.
