Some Democrats See Party Being Dragged Under by Russian Conspiracy Theories

I know that it’s difficult to believe in these creepy days of the rise of the totalitarian left, but there are still such things as rational Democrats.

They may be an endangered species in a party that is becoming rapidly detached from reality over their hatred of President Trump and paranoid Russian conspiracy theories, but there remain a few who are fearful that the Dems will be dragged down by their obsessions.

Living inside the media bubble and surrounded by lunatics is the equivalent of being locked in a hospital for the criminally insane and it has blinded the majority of the Democrats to the very real issues that voters actually care about.

HINT: It isn’t Russia.

This is the case that a bombshell of a new Politico article is making.

The following are excerpts from the Politico story entitled “Democrats fear Russia probe blowback”:

Democrats are increasingly conflicted about how forcefully to press the issue of possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Fearful of alienating voters who appear more concerned about the economy and health care, Democrats campaigning in districts across the country are de-emphasizing Russia in their rhetoric — and some are warning that a persistent focus on the Russia investigation could backfire.

“In the races where I’m working, I think voters think that Russia is important and that the questions need to get answered,” Bill Burton, a veteran Democratic consultant, said at a political convention this past weekend. “But they’re mostly sick of hearing about it, and they want to hear politicians talk about things that are more directly important in their lives.”

In a state that is critical to the party’s efforts to retake the House, Darry Sragow, a Democratic strategist whose California Target Book handicaps races in California, called Russia a “distraction” and said Democrats “are going to be in deep, deep trouble if they don’t start talking about what voters care about.”

“We need to talk about what people think about when they wake up in the morning, and it’s not Russia,” Sragow said. “The more we talk about stuff that voters don’t truly care about in their daily lives … it confirms that the Democratic Party’s brain has been eaten by the elites in Washington who have been sitting fat and happy for a lot of years while working Americans have lost their jobs and lost confidence in the future.”

But a plurality of voters in the POLITICO/Morning Consult poll said Congress should not seek to impeach Trump. An earlier Harvard-Harris Poll found nearly two-thirds of American voters say investigations into Trump and Russia are hurting the country.

In that polling, wary Democrats see shades of 1998, when Republicans were widely believed to have overreached on the Monica Lewinsky scandal, losing five House seats in the midterm elections.

“Obviously, you don’t know how everything’s going to come out and what cycles we’re going to go through with the independent counsel and the report,” said Mark Penn, the Harvard-Harris Poll’s co-director and former adviser to Bill and Hillary Clinton. “But if you were to ask me as of today, Democrats are doing a lot better on health care than they’re doing on Russia … There’s a risk that they repeat ‘98, that the Republicans create a campaign on issues and [Democrats] get tagged too much with only being about negative arguments.”

You will never read anything even remotely like this in the New York Times or Washington Post or see it on CNN but the strategists cited by Politico make a damn good point that the Democrats could be courting disaster in 2018 if they fail to take off their tinfoil hats.

There is, of course, the possibility that the fecklessness of Republicans led by Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell over the failure to either support Trump or repeal Obamacare could result in the Dems winning seats regardless of their lack of message. This is the worst case scenario.

Politico also doesn’t address the severe backlash that will be coming IF they manage to win back the House next year and successfully launch an impeachment of Trump based on “evidence” that rogue special counsel Robert Mueller will be providing.

No matter what the Dems do, there will surely be hell to pay if the 63 million people that voted for Trump see a politically motivated witch hunt to disenfranchise them by reversing the results of the 2016 election simply because Hillary lost.

This could end up getting really ugly.

  1. Didn’t a democrat governor switch parties this past week? I don’t consider that to be a good thing – democrat is as fatal to the human brain as the mark of the beast! NO redemption! That’s how neo conservatives are created. There is no such thing as a neo conservative. Neocon is just a coded label that actually means liar/controlled (by the DNC leftists) opposition.

But the fact that rats are starting to jump ship means the waterline is getting higher on the freeboard!!

Frankly I wish all dems would stay stupid – the Midianites who freaked out and destroyed themselves…

Take that Liar, Hanoi John Fire-starter McCain with you, dems! He’s the poster child “neoconservative”!
