Tillerson: Russia complicit or incompetent on chemical weapon destruction
Defying democrat claims that the Trump administration is soft on Russia, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Thursday, “Russia has failed in its responsibility” to destroy Syria’s chemical weapons stockpile.
“This clearly indicates the president is willing to take decisive action when called for,” Tillerson said.
Tillerson’s remarks came in an off-camera press event shortly after the president went on television to announce the strike.
“Either Russia has been complicit or Russia has been simply incompetent in its ability to deliver on its end of that agreement.”
Russia told the world that they would “locate these weapons, secure these weapons and destroy the weapons. They would act as the guarantor,” Tillerson said. “Clearly, Russia has failed in its responsibility.”
America’s allies have been quick to support the attack according to Tillerson.
“We coordinated very carefully with our international partners in terms of communicating with them around the world. I would tell you that the response from our allies, as well as the region and the Middle East, has been overwhelmingly supportive of the actions we have taken,” the secretary said.
Tillerson’s comments came at nearly the same time that PolitiFact pulled its fact check on the Obama administration’s assertions that Syria’s chemical weapons capability had been destroyed came back …. mostly true. Go figure.
Many other main stream organizations that praised Obama for having rid the world of Syria’s weapons of mass destruction will wonder how they got it so wrong and then find a way to cover it up.
