Appearing on Bill Maher’s Real Time HBO show, Alex Wagner, Huffington Post writer, was asked what she would change about the U.S. Constitution. She responded that she would do away with the 2nd amendment.
“I think get rid of the second Amendment, the right to bear arms. I just think in the grand scheme of the rights that we have; the right of assembly, free speech, [first amendment] I mean, owning a gun does not, it does not tally on the same level as those other Constitutional rights.”
Fortunately, Representative Darrell Issa (R-CA) was also on the show. To Wagner’s remark, Issa responded, “We have a problem in America which is we misunderstand quite frankly what the Second Amendment is for, it’s for law abiding citizens to have a right both to protect themselves and to be protected from living under tyranny.”
Just so you know, here is the text of the 2nd amendment: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” And the Supreme Court, in District of Columbia v. Heller (2008), ruled that the 2nd amendment protects an individual’s right to possess a firearm, unconnected to service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home. The Supreme Court also ruled in McDonald v. Chicago (2010), that the 2nd amendment limits state and local governments to the same extent that it limits the federal government.
For Alex Wagner, here is a little recent history that MAY interest her since she makes her living writing what she wants (free speech). Adolf Hitler used firearms registration lists to confiscate guns and execute their owners. Kristallnacht was preceded by the confiscation of firearms from the Jewish victims. On November 9, 1938, Adolf Hitler, Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels, and other Nazis planned the attack. Orders went out to Nazi security forces: “All Jewish stores are to be destroyed immediately . . . Jewish synagogues are to be set on fire . . . The Führer wishes that the police does not intervene. . . All Jews are to be disarmed. In the event of resistance they are to be shot immediately.”
The Second Amendment supports the First Amendment. Criminals don’t care if a right to bear arms is in the Constitution. They arm themselves anyway. Disarming law abiding citizens only makes them victims of violence from criminals and victims of oppression from their government. Perhaps Alex Wagner should read some history and do some thinking before opening her mouth.
But that’s just my opinion.

I don’t think any part of our Constitution should be abolished !! The second amendment protects us in event that we are faced with protecting our very lives and that should be the right all over the world !! There will always be the bad seeds of the world who will be armed so we must have this right !! We have a terrorist generation in other countries who are commanded and taught from day one to cut your head off if you won’t follow their religion for goodness sake !! Taking away the second amendment would be crazy !! I will fight to keep the twisted poliiticians from taking our freedom away and re-writing our constitution !!

What a poorly written screed. The masthead banner reads “Conservative Daily News.” Talk about false advertising! It is neither conservative nor is it news. It is commentary; not reporting. Does this author even consider getting the facts before commenting. Alex Wagner is a woman.
No one says it is reporting. If you bothered to read Warren’s tagline at the end, you would know that. Plus the fact it is categorized in the OPINION category!!!
