Oregon Community College Shooter had ‘mental health issues’

9 people are dead and 9 others injured during a campus shooting at Roseburg, Oregon’s Umpqua Community College on Thursday.

Shots were reportedly fired at about 10:40am local time this morning in Snyder Hall.

As shots rang out, the campus was put on lock-down.

the gunman’s family told investigators that he suffered from mental health issues and had sought treatment

Who was the Oregon Shooter?

26 year old Chris Harper-Mercer who died by his own hand during the shooting has been confirmed to be the Umpqua Community College shooter. Mercer had moved to the area several years ago with his mother and was registered for the class in which he killed 7 other students, the teacher and eventually himself.

Neighbors that knew Mercer and his mother said that his mother was normal and talked with neighbors regularly, but Chris was a loner. He could often be heard having temper tantrums in their apartment and did not socialize with others.

Seems the more people you kill, the more you’re in the limelight

Two officials said that after the shooting, the gunman’s family told investigators that he suffered from mental health issues and had sought treatment. It is unknown at this time whether the shooter was actively being treated or if he was on anti-psychotic medication as a result of treatment.

He had idolized, murderers, islamic terrorists and the Irish Republican Army.

Posts were left under the user name “lithium_love.” Two of them were specifically about recent shootings — one about Vester Flanagan, who killed two local news reporters in Virginia, and one about an officer slain near Houston in August.

Speaking of Flanagan on August 31, the blog post reads: “I have noticed that so many people like him are all alone and unknown, yet when they spill a little blood, the whole world knows who they are. … Seems the more people you kill, the more you’re in the limelight.”

What happened to the shooter from the Umpqua college shooting?

The gunman, Chris Harper-Mercer, died in an apparent suicide.

The cause of death of Chris Harper-Mercer, the shooter behind the deadly rampage at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, was suicide, Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin said Saturday. Nine people were killed and nine others injured in Thursday’s shooting.

What was the motive for Chris Mercer to shoot students in Oregon?

NRToday is reporting that their may be a religious motive in the shooting:

Kortney Moore, 18, from Rogue River, was in her Writing 115 class in Snyder Hall when one shot came through a window. She saw her teacher get shot in the head. The shooter was inside at that point, and he told people to get on the ground. The shooter was asking people to stand up and state their religion and then started firing away, Moore said. Moore was lying there with people who had been shot.

Another witness confirms the anti-Christian attacker’s motive:

“The shooter was lining people up and asking if they were Christian,” she wrote. “If they said yes, then they were shot in the head. If they said no, or didn’t answer, they were shot in the legs.”

Where did the Oregon shooter get his guns?

Authorities believe that all four firearms at the scene belonged to the shooter. He brought five handguns and one rifle to the campus despite the fact that guns are banned at Umpqua. The school is designated as a gun-free zone.

A total of 13 guns were connected to the shooter.

All the guns were legally obtained by the shooter or family members over the past three years through a federally licensed firearms dealer, said Celinez Nunez of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
