Federal Judge Shuts Down Grisham’s Gun Ban

A federal judge in New Mexico issued an order Wednesday blocking New Mexico Governor Michelle Grisham’s unconstitutional gun ban from being enforced.

U.S. District Judge David Urias slapped a restraining order on Grisham after hearing oral arguments from both sides Wednesday afternoon. The order extends until the final hearing is held on October 3rd.

The judge heard arguments from five different lawsuits, all arguing those restrictions violated Second Amendment rights. Attorneys specifically referenced several U.S. Supreme Court rulings, including one from last year, that said the right to own a gun for self defense exists in and out of the home.

One of the plaintiffs in the case, the National Foundation for Gun Rights, was pleased about the judge’s decision.

Hannah Hill, the firm’s executive director, said she was “thrilled” that the judge blocked “the governor’s wildly unconstitutional public health gun ban.”

New Mexico’s Attorney General also applauded the judge’s decision.

Judge Urias’ decision to block implementation of the Governor’s unconstitutional Emergency Order is not at all surprising and the Attorney General hopes that today’s ruling will prompt the Governor to abandon her unilateral and divisive approach to complex problems and engage in a more deliberative process that will yield tangible results for the people of New Mexico,” AG Raúl Torrez wrote in a statement.

The gun ban was part of a public health executive order that, in part, suspended the rights of everyone, except law enforcement and licensed security, from carrying firearms whether concealed or not.

Grisham’s tyrannical order that suspended gun rights was met with more than 30 lawsuits almost immediately, and this injunction is an early indication that they will likely prevail in reeling in the Governor’s lust for power.
