Blackburn Blasts Dems For Funding Border Security Abroad, But Not US

Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee blasted congressional Democrats Wednesday for a “double standard” on border security.

“Of course there’s a double standard. And bear in mind, places like D.C., Chicago, New York City had said we are sanctuary cities, we welcome having individuals come into our state and our city. Tennessee is not a sanctuary state. Our cities and towns are not sanctuary cities and towns and they have said, ‘No, we want the border secure,’” Blackburn told “America Reports” hosts Sandra Smith and John Roberts.

“This is what happens when you do not abide by the rule of law, when you do not secure your border, when you do not have a plan,” Blackburn continued. “And it is unseemly that in this $1.7 trillion spending bill they want to pass today, there is money for countries to secure their borders and have enhanced border security, but the money there for the Border Patrol, it says explicitly, you cannot use this on border security.”

United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) received $1,563,143,000 for “operations and support” in the $1.7 trillion omnibus spending bill, but the legislation prohibits the use of those funds “to acquire, maintain, or extend border security technology and capabilities, except for technology and capabilities to improve Border Patrol processing.”

The prohibition comes after CBP encountered over 2.3 million migrants in Fiscal Year 2022, with another 230,000 in October, the first month of the new fiscal year, according to official figures, while another 600,000 migrants evaded CBP, Fox News reported.

In the same legislation, several foreign countries were provided $410 million for improving border security, with at least $150 million earmarked for the Kingdom of Jordan, Republican Rep. Dan Bishop of Georgia tweeted.

Democratic Sen. Pat Leahy of Vermont, the chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.

  1. Good for you Marsha. Wish the whole Senate was like you! We have Ron Johnson in Wisconsin who is a good Senator but then we have the other Senator who is a lesbian and is a disgrace to Wisconsin. Both my daughters live In Tennessee and want my wife and I to move there. I am seriously considering it. This country is going to hell in a hand basket with the buffoon Biden at the helm and his Chinese counterparts pushing the train. 2024 will decide the future or demise of America.

  3. Congress is truly insane if this spending spree passes. $1.5B+ for border security that can’t be used for border “security”, only border “processing”.
Democrats came up with this mess and I hope they suffer the consequences.

  4. After sending 100 billion to the corrupt Ukrainian government that has closed and banned all Orthodox Christian churches and censored all but state approved media (kinda like here) and whose oligarchs are now buying homes in Switzerland while President Zelenskyy’s wife goes on a shopping spree in Paris. Now Mitch McConnel says nothing is more important to all Republicans than Ukraine’s “sovereignty” and sending even more money than Biden asked for to Ukraine. I beg to differ, but I think our “sovereignty” is more important, especially considering that we effectively no longer have a southern border. And, oh yeah, those American manned Patriot missile launchers they are going to send, will most certainly end up with some dead Americans and no longer a “proxy” war, but a live “hot” war with Russia.

And let’s not forget that RINO McConnell and 22 other Republican Senators want to jam through the nearly 2 Trillion dollar 4,500 page Omnibus spending bill that castrates the Republican House before they are even sworn in. A bill that sends billions more to our now “woke” military with no accountability for their disastrous and humiliating withdrawal from Afghanistan that left tens of billions of our armaments and best equipment to the Taliban and unnecessarily killed 13 Americans. Or no accountability for their recruitment crisis because they are teaching anti-white CRT and flying “rainbow flags” and painting “rainbow bullets” on Marine helmets in recruiting ads.

Then there’s funding for LGBTQ museums, the metropolitan opera, the “Michelle Obama” trail and 200 million for the “Gender Equity and Equality Action Fund” (whatever the hell that is) and on and on and on. All while the middle class is being crushed by the inflation that is caused by all of this out of control money printing by the government. And, oh yeah, not a penny for our “sovereignty and territorial integrity” with a completely open border that lets in millions of unvaccinated illegals, including criminals, cartels, terrorists (90 caught so far) and the Chinese made fentanyl that kills 250 American every single day. It’s abhorrent and disgusting that our government cares more about Ukrainians and illegals than it does its own citizens.
