AZ Congressman Introduces Bill to Abolish OSHA

On Tuesday, Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) introduced a bill that would abolish the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

In addition to abolishing the agency, the bill, referred to as the Nullify Occupational Safety and Heath Administration Act (NOSHA), would repeal the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, the legislation responsible for the establishment of OSHA.

Biggs introduced the bill just two days before the agency, which President Joe Biden has tasked with enforcing his administration’s private sector vaccine mandate, formally announced the details of the mandate, and set a Jan. 4 deadline for employees to be vaccinated or be subjected to weekly tests for COVID-19.

The federal directive is already on the receiving end of a bevy of legal challenges. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Thursday that the state would join a lawsuit being filed by Georgia and Alabama, and a handful of private entities. Other suits have been filed by the attorneys general of Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky, and the Daily Wire, a conservative media outlet.

While these lawsuits specifically target the vaccine mandate pushed forth by OSHA, Biggs had opted to go after the institution itself, out of an apparent belief that it is unnecessary, unconstitutional, and indicative of the treachery of the federal government’s reliance on unelected bureaucrats.

“OSHA’s existence is yet another example of the federal government creating agencies to address issues that are more appropriately handled by state governments and private employers,” Biggs said in a press release.

“Arizona, and every other state, has the constitutional right to establish and implement their own health and safety measures, and is more than capable of doing so. It’s time that we fight back against the bloated federal government and eliminate agencies that never should have been established in the first place. I will not let OSHA push Arizona around with their bureaucratic regulations and urge my colleagues to support my effort to eliminate this unconstitutional federal agency.”
