CBP Officers Seize Crystal Meth Worth More Than $2.9 Million

LAREDO, TexasU.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Colombia Solidarity International Bridge took $2,951,960 worth of crystal methamphetamine off the streets when they discovered the narcotics concealed within a personally owned vehicle.

“This is another prime example of our CBP officers’ commitment to our Border Security mission of preventing narcotics from entering our country,” said Port Director Albert Flores, Laredo Port of Entry.  “Intercepting people who are attempting to bring illicit contraband is just one of the many duties our CBP officers do to keep our communities safe.”

The seizure occurred on Thursday, August 29, 2019 when a CBP officer referred a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica driven by a 21-year-old-female United States citizen and resident of Houston, Texas for a secondary inspection.  The utilization of a canine and non-intrusive imaging (NII) technology as part of the secondary inspection resulted in the discovery of 65 packages of alleged crystal methamphetamine.

CBP officers seized the vehicle and the methamphetamine, which weighed 147 pounds.  The driver was arrested and the case is under investigation by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
