Border Patrol Seizes over 1,000 pounds of Marijuana in the Rio Grande Valley
EDINBURG, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents continue to encounter narcotic smuggling attempts throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
Just after midnight, Rio Grande City agents responded to illicit activity near La Rosita, Texas. As agents arrived, they observed several subjects drop bundles on the ground and return to the riverbank. The subjects then jumped into the river and swam to Mexico. An inspection of the bundles revealed over 350 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $284K.
Later this morning, Border Patrol agents responded to the report of suspicious activity near Rio Grande City, Texas. Upon arrival, responding agents observed several subjects running toward the Rio Grande. Agents pursued the fleeing subjects and witnessed them jump into the river and return to Mexico. An immediate search of the area resulted in the seizure of eight bundles of marijuana weighing over 700 pounds, valued at an estimated $563K.
