Review: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

 Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is the fifth installment of the Jurassic Park series and is the darkest, scariest, suspenseful and most breathtaking one yet with constant action in cliff hanging sequences from beginning to end. Just when you think our heroes are out of danger, they aren’t.

Four years after the Jurassic World theme park was closed down, Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Howard) return to Isla Nublar to save the dinosaurs when they learn that a once dormant volcano on the island is active and is threatening to extinguish all life there. A rescue OP what could possibly go wrong? Claire is told. Along the way, Owen sets out to find Blue, his lead raptor he’s raised and trained and discovers a conspiracy that could disrupt the natural order of the entire planet.  The exposition weighs a ton, starting with Jeff Goldblum as Jurassic regular Dr. Malcolm warning Congress that it’s dangerous to mess with Mother Nature and should we let the dinosaurs already created live or die. He suggests they live and says, “Mankind must learn to live with them as they were here before us and if we’re not careful they will be here after us, Welcome to Jurassic World”, Dr. Malcom says when testifying before Congress.

With the eruption imminent, the park’s former operations manager Claire Dearing, (Bryce Howard)now the founder of the Dinosaur Protection Group recruits Owen Grady (Christopher Pratt) in an effort to rescue the island’s dinosaurs and evacuate them to safety. Claire finds financing from Benjamin Lockwood (James Cromwell), the billionaire who originally partnered with John Hammond – the late Richard Attenborough’s character to build the park. The idea is to move the remaining creatures to another sanctuary where they’ll be safe. Little do they know that Lockwood’s fake-smiling associate Eli Mills (Rafe Spall) has plans to weaponize the beasts and sell them to arms dealers at an auction located in a mansion that also combines as a warehouse.

Meanwhile, a group of mercenaries is sent to Isla Nublar to recover the bones of the Indominus rex from the Jurassic World lagoon for the creation of a new genetically modified hybrid: the Indoraptor. Along with a platoon of military experts led by Captain Ken Wheatley,(Ted Levine the captain of TV’s Monk).

They are instructed to capture 11 species and bring them back to the states for the process of taking their DNA to produce bigger and stronger dinosaurs that will take command and be used as weapons. The dinos are sold to the highest bidder gathered from around the world who are prepared to pay tens of millions of dollars.

The dinosaurs are all in thick steel-barred cages and when Claire and Owen break them out all hell breaks loose. Dinosaurs are rushing through all the rooms in the mansion crashing through doors stalking people and even chomping on people. Through all this chaos Claire and Owen try to rescue Lockwood’s ten-year-old niece Maisle from the movie’s villain.

The dinosaurs are the real attraction of this film and are extremely realistic looking and in their actions and amazing to watch as they creep around fighting back at the bidders and mercenaries holding them.

The movie is jammed pack with non -stop action and superb CGI effects that make the interaction between dinosaurs and human up close and real even more intense. There are lots of shots of dinosaurs open mouths with tongue wagging, eye close-ups and teeth gnashing along with lots of growls.

Jurassic World is an exciting movie and judging by the ending I’m sure they’ll be a sequel. Check out the exciting trailer below and then see it on the big screen.
