Trump Fights Back At China By Imposing Limits On Chinese Visas
by Vandana Rambaran
The State Department announced Tuesday it will shorten the length of visas issued to Chinese citizens to protect U.S. intellectual property, a promise outlined by the Trump administration in the president’s national security strategy in December.
The National Security Strategy reads: “The United States will review visa procedures to reduce economic theft by non-traditional intelligence collectors.” The administration plans to implement measures designed to limit access Chinese people and companies have to American technology, the White House announced Tuesday. The U.S. believes Beijing has been stealing American ideas.
“Although the large majority of visas issued to Chinese nationals are issued for the maximum validity, consular officers may limit the validity of visas on a case-by-case basis, as appropriate to the circumstances of each case,” a State Department Official told The Hill.
