Shapiro Slams Oprah’s Speech, Says She’s Been Silent ‘For 20 Years’
by Nick Givas
Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Wire Ben Shapiro said Oprah Winfrey’s speech at Sunday’s Golden Globes was a little too late, and accused the actress of being silent on issues of sexual harassment for 20 years, Monday on Fox News’ “The Story With Martha MacCallum.”
“What the hell kind of risk was she taking? She was standing in front of an entire town filled with sexual abusers and harassers. She said nothing about it for 20 years,” Shaprio said. “She’s being cheered by people who said nothing about it for 20 years and there she is pretending that she’s leading the fight. In what way has she led the fight?”
Shapiro thinks Oprah’s speech had zero effect on the entertainment industry and felt she expressed opinions most people hold already.
“Just because she said some stuff last night, I haven’t seen how things have materially changed,” hve said. “What changed after Oprah? Oprah said a bunch of stuff. Well I was under the impression most of us agreed with that stuff.”
Shapiro also went after the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for not investigating harassment allegation and believes recent revelations about Hollywood’s sexual impropriety should have come out much sooner.
“[Oprah] lauded the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, where were they reporting on the sexual harassment and abuse scandal for the last 20 years? It is literally their job to cover Hollywood. And yet it took the New Yorker and Ronan Farrow to uncover this stuff,” he concluded.
