STAY ALIVE in Your Football Survivor Pool – Week One
Fantasy football is a huge business in America, having risen from humble beginnings to become a multi-billion-dollar industry.
One variation that many participate in is the survivor pool, a challenging gauntlet where one must select the ONE NFL team per week that will win and then not be allowed to select that team again for the duration of the season.
It’s much more of a challenge than choosing a weekly FFL lineup because you have no room for error, one loss and you’re OUT.
It takes careful planning and players need to look weeks ahead to calculate their best chances but all it takes is one upset and the season is over.
Last year I nearly got eliminated in week one as the Seattle Seahawks came within seconds of a home loss to an unsung Miami Dolphins team. I managed to navigate the gauntlet until midseason when the favored Green Bay Packers laid an egg at Lambeau Field against the Indianapolis Colts.
Not that it would have mattered, my ROCK SOLID can’t miss pick of the year was for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to lose to the playoff bound Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. The Bucs sprung the upset in week 11 with a 19-17 win that nobody saw coming.
With less than a week remaining until the 2017 season kicks off, here are the best bets get out of week one alive:
New England Patriots OVER Kansas City Chiefs: It’s really hard to see New England losing this game at home, coming off of a Super Bowl championship and against an opponent with a stagnant offense.
Carolina Panthers OVER San Francisco 49ers: If you are looking to save the Patriots for later in the year this game could be an option. The Niners are a mess and Carolina should have Cam Newton back and ready to go.
Denver Broncos OVER Los Angeles Chargers: Both of these teams are dealing with serious issues but the Chargers’ move to L.A. has this bunch discombobulated enough that it could be too much to win a road game in the Mile High City.
MY PICK: The Patriots. This game shouldn’t even be close.
