One of the most interesting yet downplayed aspects of this first weekend of NFL football was that the Cleveland Browns made amends for their silly protest of the national anthem in the preseason by joining with police, first responders and military members in a show of unity.
The Browns caught a lot of flak after a dozen players – including a white dude – took a knee during the team’s Monday Night exhibition game against the Giants.
A local VFW post vowed to boycott their beloved team over the gesture and police and EMS unions backed out of a previously agreed upon ceremony to hold the flag over the disrespect from the miscreants.
Then on Sunday, right before the kickoff of the game against the division rival Pittsburgh Steelers, the Browns shocked the world by taking the field with and then locking arms and standing with police and military personnel during the playing of the Star-Spangled Banner.

Via Cleveland NBC affiliate WKYC “Cleveland Browns join with Cleveland Police, first responders for pregame ceremony”:
After days of speculation about how Cleveland Police and Cleveland Browns players would treat the pregame ceremony before today’s season opener at First Energy Stadium, the two groups joined with first responders in a rousing display of unity.
Following the largest National Anthem protest in the National Football League during the preseason, the Cleveland Browns came under intense scrutiny from the union representing the Cleveland Police Department.
There was so much backlash that union president Steve Loomis said Cleveland Police officers would not hold the flag at the Browns’ home opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers at FirstEnergy Stadium Sunday.
However, on Friday, it was announced Friday that Browns players will join members of the Cleveland Police Department and United States military men and women in holding the American flag during the National Anthem prior to Sunday’s kickoff. The first responders went even a step further by running out of the tunnel with the players during pregame introductions.
It could be a sign that the tide is starting to turn on the cop-hating, Fidel Castro-loving crumb Colin Kaepernick, his militant girlfriend and other travelers who are seeking to use the national anthem as a weapon to divide Americans along racial lines to fuel their own dangerous agendas.
None of them can be very happy about what went down in Cleveland on Sunday because it is going to take a similar unity such as when Americans came together after 9/11 to defeat the enemy from within that seeks to stomp out freedom under the jackboot of the totalitarian left.
