Obamacare repeal vote postponed until next week

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced Tuesday that the Obamacare repeal vote will be postponed until early next week.

“For the information of all Senators, at the request of the President and Vice President and after consulting with our members, we will have the vote on the Motion to Proceed to the Obamacare repeal bill early next week,” McConnell announced on the floor of the Senate.

McConnell had said Monday night that he would call for a vote on repeal after the Senate’s repair bill failed to garner the necessary votes to pass.

The same fate may befall the repeal bill.

Three Republicans, Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia and Susan Collins of Maine said that they would oppose McConnell’s motion to proceed on the repeal bill – effectively killing the effort to repeal the failing Affordable Care Act otherwise known as Obamacare.

“I think what has to happen is the Republicans have to admit that some of the things in the ACA, we actually liked,” Murkowski told reporters. “Democrats have to admit that some of the things they voted for in the ACA are broken and need to be fixed.”

Moderates like Murkowski, Capito and Collins favor the same government-heavy approach to health care that Democrats like. And Conservatives like Mike Lee and Rand Paul favor outright repeal of Obama’s legacy health care law that is hurting working families.

After repeal and replace failed to be considered by the Senate, President Donald Trump told reporters that he was “very disappointed” and that Democrats and moderate Republicans have left him few options other than to “let Obamacare fail and then the Democrats are going to come to us.”
