Media Tries to Cook Up Another Tom Brady Scandal

Superstar NFL quarterback Tom Brady is once again the subject of a scandal that the media is concocting.

The New England Patriots franchise player may have just established himself as the greatest of all time with his fifth Super Bowl ring, but the pot-stirrers and troublemakers smell a story that can be exploited.

It seemed that Brady was finally free, with the wind in his sails and was just honored on the cover of the popular Madden NFL 18 video game series. But the Tom Brady haters are always lurking in the weeds, especially over the quarterback’s friendship with embattled President Donald Trump who is like the devil to the media.

Now that Deflategate is over and done with, Brady suddenly finds himself at the center of what will inevitably be tabbed as Concussiongate.  It already has a Twitter hashtag.

At issue is a comment made by Brady’s wife Gisele Bundchen on a morning chit-chat show that her husband was the victim of a concussion last year. One that wasn’t reported by the Patriots nor was Brady subjected to the NFL’s strict concussion protocols.

According to the Associated Press “Gisele Bundchen: Tom Brady had a concussion last year”:

Tom Brady played through a concussion last year on his way to a fifth Super Bowl title, according to his wife, supermodel Gisele Bundchen. The injury, which was not reported by the team, left her worried about how long he should continue to play football.

Asked if she wanted the New England Patriots quarterback to retire, Bundchen expressed concern “as a wife” in an interview on “CBS This Morning” that aired Wednesday.

“He had a concussion last year. He has concussions pretty much every …” she said, before cutting herself off. “I mean, we don’t talk about it. But he does have concussions. I don’t really think it’s a healthy thing for anybody to go through.”

Brady sat out the first four games of the season as punishment for his role in the “Deflategate” scandal and missed practice late in the season for leg, thigh and ankle injuries. But he was not listed on the league-required injury reports for a concussion or head injury at any point during either the 2016 calendar year or the 2016 season.

The NFL requires “significant or noteworthy” injuries to be reported, regardless of whether a player is expected to miss playing time, and says honest reporting of injuries “affects the integrity of the game.”

The Patriots and Brady’s agent declined to respond to Bundchen’s comments on Wednesday.

The NFL has been adapting the way that concussions are dealt with after studies based on the brain tissue of several deceased former players showed the same abnormality.

Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) was discovered by now famous neuropathologist Bennet Omalu who examined the brain of former Pittsburgh Steelers great Mike Webster after his long, tragic decline and demise. Omalu was onto something and examined the brains of other former players who had also died after experiencing problems and the common thread was concussions as a result of onfield violence.

Dr. Omalu was even played by actor Will Smith in the movie “Concussion” that came out in 2015.

Retired players whose aging bodies are breaking down along with their mental capacities put a spotlight on the concussion issue that continues to expand. Just last week former Miami Dolphins great Nick Buoniconti of the undefeated 1972 team admitted to Sports Illustrated that he was a victim of CTE.

The concussion issue put the NFL in a difficult position due to potential legal claims by players and their families. A billion-dollar class-action lawsuit on behalf of former players has been working its way through the courts for six years.

Simply put, there is no way to overstate how sensitive that the concussion issue is in not only the NFL but sports in general due to the awareness after Omalu’s breakthrough.

So, it’s understandable that the league would be pretty sensitive to their star player having possibly been hiding a concussion last year. If Brady were indeed concussed, he may have been forced to miss at least a portion of one game and possibly more.

The Patriots’ Super Bowl drive could have been derailed without a healthy Tom Brady and the homefield playoff edge that he delivered. New England is practically invincible in January at Gillette Stadium and easily destroyed both postseason opponents this year without even breaking a sweat.

As anyone who has been watching the insane daily media feeding frenzy over the grand conspiracy that President Trump conspired with Vladimir Putin to cheat Hillary Clinton out of the White House throne that she was entitled to can attest, scandal is like mother’s milk to the modern media.

The league of course denied that there were any reports on any concussion to Tom Brady. His agent also denied the superstar’s wife’s unfortunate slip of the tongue.

That however will not be enough to keep the beasts at bay and especially when the target is Tom Brady who is a reviled figure to many. Don’t forget the inquisition after a red MAGA hat was seen hanging in his locker last year.

The unhinged left transformed the match-up between Brady’s Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons into some sort of sick and twisted proxy war against Trump. Then for the second time in three months they had their hearts ripped out and stomped on after Brady lead a record comeback to crush their hopes and dreams much like the POTUS did in the election.

For now, this one is just percolating but with the media always on the hunt for more scalps it could quickly mushroom into yet another ginned-up controversy that they can speculate over for months on end.

The political motivation to use Brady to stick it to Trump is likely already on the minds of many so-called sports reporters who use the games to push their leftist agendas.

This story will likely be around for awhile.
