Assistant is a combination of Google’s “Now” and “Ok Google” services allowing voice control with personalization services so that your smartphone will be able to proactively remind you of things you didn’t even know you forgot.
Google’s Now knows you. It knows where you like to eat lunch, what your favorite baseball team is and what kind of music you like to workout to. Now you get someone that can remind you to stream the Cubbies while eating noodles at that Thai place you like all embodied in an AI-driven conversationally interactive experience. Think “Rosie” the robot maid on the Jetsons but in a more convenient form factor.
Google Assistant has been available on Google Wear and Pixel products for some time, but the rollout to Android 6.0 (Marshmellow) and 7.0 (Nougat) devices began on February 26th, 2017.
