Fox News Pays Gretchen and Says Goodbye to Greta
21st Century Fox has decided to pay Gretchen Carlson $20 million in a settlement and Greta Van Susteren is leaving the network.
Carlson had filed a sexual harassment suit against Roger Ailes and 21st Century Fox just after the network decided not to renew her contract.
The suit caused Fox to do an internal investigation that led to Ailes’ departure from his position as Chairman.
The settlement reportedly pays Gretchen $20million and requires Fox to make a public apology.
Ailes’ departure kicked-off a key man clause in “On the Record” host Greta Van Susteren which allowed her to exit her contract if Roger ever left the company. Apparently she chose to use the clause to start a renegotiation of her contract.
Van Susteren confirmed she activated a “key-man clause” in her contract allowing her to leave following the departure of former Fox News Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes.
“Fox has not felt like home to me for a few years and I took advantage of the clause in my contract which allows me to leave now,” she wrote. “The clause had a time limitation, meaning I could not wait.”
Today, Fox announced that retired Fox anchor and current political analyst Britt Hume would be taking over “On the Record” through the 2016 election.
