Son of Police Captain arrested in suspected terror plot
U.S. Attorney’s office says they’ve arrested an Adams, MA man in connection with a terror plot.
Alexander Ciccolo, a 23 year-old man also known as Ali Al Amriki, has so far only been charged with possession of firearms by a felon, but additional terrorism-related charges are expected.
On July 4th, Ciccolo took possession of four firearms that he purchased from an informant working with the Western Massachusetts Joint Terrorism Task Force.
Ciccolo had told a cooperating witness that he intended to commit acts of terror “including setting off improvised explosive devices, such as pressure cookers filled with black powder, nails, ball bearings and glass, in places where large numbers of people congregate, like college cafeterias.”
Ciccolo is the son of Boston Police Captain Robert Ciccolo, who was one of the first responders to the Boston Marathon bombing
Ciccolo is known by the U.S. Attorney’s office to be an ISIS sympathizer.
Authorities say that Ciccolo had purchased a pressure cooker and had several partially-constructed Molatov cocktails.
