Obama campaign manager Jim Messina sent out an anxious and apparently error filled email begging for donors. He wrote, “Through the primaries, more than three-quarters of our donations were from people giving less than $1,000. Meanwhile, in that same period, Mitt Romney’s campaign raised three-quarters of its money from people giving $1,000 or more.”
However, according to the Romney website there is a clear demonstration that support for the presumptive GOP candidate is coming primarily from small donations.
From the Romney Website July 9, 2012:
Key facts: 94% of all donations received in June were under $250 $22.3 million raised in June by donations under $250 536,729 donations received were under $250
