LSU Tigers Shocking Homecoming Gag Job Against Troy Shows Team in Freefall

Maybe getting your ass kicked by Alabama every year wasn’t so bad after all.

Say what you will about former Louisiana State head coach Les Myles and his inability to develop a consistent offense and quirky decisions but until 2015, he had the Tigers in contention and his teams were a pipeline for talent moving up to the NFL.

Myles was fired last year after a slow start largely attributed to his leap of faith in trying to develop a young quarterback who couldn’t throw and sticking with him long after that it became obvious that he was a liability. Fans had been calling for Myles’ head anyway after a run of futility against powerhouse Alabama that annually relegated LSU to being a non-factor in the national championship picture.

But his teams typically took care of business at home which wasn’t the case on Saturday when unheralded Sun Belt Conference team Troy University waltzed into Death Valley and handed the Tigers a humiliating 24-21 loss that wasn’t as close as the final score indicates.

Troy?

Think that one over Tigers fans, and to make matters even more unbearable, it came on homecoming weekend. It seems like the Trojans weren’t the usual patsy that SEC contenders normaly feast upon.

Or maybe LSU just flat out sucks.

Five games into the 2017 season and the Ed Orgeron Death Watch Already in Effect in Baton Rouge

The air is thick with the aroma of buyer’s remorse in Baton Rouge as the sugar high of Bayou favorite Ed Orgeron landing the gig as Myles’ replacement has already dissipated with the once mighty Tigers in very serious trouble.

Has any NCAA Division One team fallen so far, so fast as the Tigers?

Troy?

Orgeron did a decent job in leading a demoralized team after Myles’ dismissal last season. But there was still the inability to beat Alabama (this time the loss was only 10-0) and the response led university officials to make the decision to go cheap by hiring Orgeron full-time rather than pursuing a head coach with a proven track record and credentials who could take the Tigers to the next level.

Troy?

The sting had barely worn off a 37-7 dismantling by Mississippi State three weeks ago before the game against a team that should have been an easy win after LSU laid one of the biggest eggs at home in a long time.

It’s not looking like it will get any easier for the 3-2 Tigers either. The easy part of the schedule is over and the upcoming SEC foes – starting with a game at Florida – will be licking their chops and looking to feast on barbecued Tiger meat.

Troy?

Four weeks before that annual Alabama ass-whuppin’ that Tiger fans have become accustomed to and at this rate, it’s not guaranteed that Orgeron will make it that long with it already being clear that the man is in way over his head.

Salt in the wounds? The University of Louisiana paid Troy nearly a million dollars to travel to Baton Rouge for what was expected to be a beatdown.

Oddsmakers had installed LSU as a 21 point favorite.

But that’s why they play the games, isn’t it?
