Second Amendment. Too Important to Lose Focus

There are a plethora of articles available on our gun rights spelled out in the Second Amendment. I have also written on the topic several times. I do not think that we write and speak about it enough. The right to protect yourself from harm and ensure you can stand up to a tyrannical government was so important to our founders that they addressed the Right with the Second Amendment. It is absolute and protected by the Constitution.

The original text for the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

That is a concise statement with colossal meaning. First, the forefathers protected the right of every citizen to own firearms. Secondly, they ensured that the people could assemble a Militia to push back against an out of control and overbearing government. Very simple. Very clear.

Some members of the Democrat Party are making comments that indicate that they do not believe in the precise meaning of the Second. Amendment and that their ultimate goal is to control the guns of law-abiding citizens. It starts at the top with the recent comment by Joe Biden.

Biden said, “No amendment — no amendment to the Constitution is absolute. You can’t yell…’ fire’ in a crowded movie theater and call it freedom of speech. From the very beginning, you couldn’t own any weapon you wanted to own. From the very beginning that the Second Amendment existed, certain people weren’t allowed to have weapons.”

This comment is an example of why it is essential to have Conservative justices on the Supreme Court who do not try to interpret the Constitution but read it as written. They understand that the Republic is based on an absolute assessment of the Constitution. The founders wrote it with clarity, not to be anything but taken as is.

Just this week, Chuck Schumer went to the floor of the Senate with this hyperbole:

“Certainly hundreds of thousands — maybe millions — of people walking the streets today because we passed [the 1994 Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act] would be dead,” Schumer, who authored the Brady Act requiring background checks on all U.S. firearm buyers,”

What Democrats believe is if you say something often enough, even if false, will become fact in people’s mind. They are blaming legal guns, and owners for uncontrollable gun violence in Democrat-run cities like Chicago, New York, and Minneapolis. They are wrongly blaming AR-15s and erroneously calling them Assault Weapons and Automatic Rifles. Neither is true and shows their ignorance of the subject.

Dick Durbin, Richard Blumenthal, and Sheila Jackson Lee have all gone on the record calling for tighter gun controls for legal guns, but nothing about the illegal handguns, not rifles, responsible for the majority of homicides and gang killings. Their comments show how out of touch they are. Their true motives are apparent. They are attempting to control the population by controlling their weapons and ability to defend themselves.

All of the efforts by Democrats while they are protected by armed guards and working in the Capital surrounded by fencing, concertina wire, and armed National Guard. Can these people get any more hypocritical? No, but they will try. Give them a minute and a microphone in their face.
