Polling: Disaster Imminent if GOP Continues Down Establishment Path

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and other Republicans continue to think they can distance themselves from former President Trump and hope he will ride off quietly into the sunset.  But what they’re missing is the reason why people support Trump to begin with.  Trump was the antithesis of McConnell and the GOP establishment because he governed by putting America and Americans first rather than special interest.

Trump didn’t govern like someone trying to preserve his own power, otherwise, he would have made all kinds of concessions in the face of the constant blistering attack on him throughout his presidency.  Instead, Trump governed like someone who wanted to get things done which he did, building an outstanding economy for all people via tax reform and deregulation.  However, McConnell did help him fill vacant judicial seats with constitutional conservative judges.

The results of a new poll are not at all surprising; however, the establishment Republicans better take it into consideration.  According to the poll from Suffolk University-USA Today, a large swath of Republicans (46 percent) would be willing to join a party founded by President Trump.  Whereas 27 percent said they’d stay GOP with the rest remaining undecided leaving the door open to a possible option to which they could possible join.

From Townhall:

“We feel like Republicans don’t fight enough for us, and we all see Donald Trump fighting for us as hard as he can, every single day,” said Brandon Keidl, a 27-year-old Republican and small-business owner from Milwaukee. “But then you have establishment Republicans who just agree with establishment Democrats and everything, and they don’t ever push back.”

According to the poll, about half of those polled indicated the Party should be “more loyal to Trump,” even if it meant losing establishment Republicans.  20 percent (1 in 5) said the party should come less loyal to Trump and embrace more establishment Republicans.

This means disaster for Establishment Republicans should they not pay attention to the reaction of the party.  This poll reflects a solid rejection of establishment directions where any attempt to sweep Trump aside, but the people that swept him into power and the reasons they did are still there and still strong.

Any attempt to shove him and his supporters aside or dismiss their issues will result in being dismissed by those voters who have very little faith in the establishment at this point.

Voters aren’t giving those who voted against Trump on impeachment a pass as eight in 10 Republicans saying that would make them less likely to vote for a Republican who supported impeachment.  Many of those Republicans who voted against Trump have been censured back in their respective home states.  Many voters are calling for these individuals to be primaried.  However, Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) will not seek re-election thus opening the door for a Trump Republican.  Rumors have swirled that President Trump’s daughter-in-law Laura Trump could run.

South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham has reached out counseled McConnell and Trump to bury their differences and come together for the good of the party.  Graham has impressed upon McConnell that “President Trump is the most consequential Republican in the party.  If Mitch McConnell doesn’t understand that, he’s missing a lot” and he said that made him very worried about 2022. Graham also praised the job that Trump did as president and told him ,“[Y]ou own the Republican Party, my friend… You are the hope of the future of conservatism.” But that they needed to get back into power in 2022 and 2024. “I believe the Democrats are doing all they can to help us. We just need to help ourselves.”

Spot on!  However, this must be done without bending over as they often do for the Democrats.  For far too long, Republicans have done nothing but lose and kowtow to Democrats until Trump came along.  Returning back to their ways remembered will not be acceptable to Trump Republicans.

It’s imperative they hear what is being said by the people fleeing disenfranchised and they need to listen to the greater point that they don’t want McConnell or Graham taking the establishment route, as they often have.  It’s time for real action and not just the uni-party typical purposeful inaction.  The GOP has been saved by how awful the Democrats have been as of late.  However, when they essentially start taking the same positions, may see no distinction.

It is vital the GOP stand for their principles that all Republicans are supposed to believe in and, most importantly, hold Democrats accountable.  If they do that then they will have the support of of Trump loyalists.
