LAREDO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers at the Juarez Lincoln Bridge intercepted hard narcotics totaling over $1 million in street value.
“Seizures like these are a prime example of the importance that CBP officers play in our overall national border security mission and protecting the public from illegal narcotics,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry.
One enforcement action occurred on Sunday, June 14th after a CBP officer referred a 2004 Ford Econoline Van for a secondary inspection. Following a canine and non-intrusive imaging system inspection, CBP officers discovered a total of 58 packages containing 36.72 pounds of alleged methamphetamine within the subjects’ personal belongings. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $734,572.
The second seizure occurred on Saturday, June 13th after CBP officers assigned to the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge Bus Operations intercepted a commercial bus arriving from Mexico. The bus was referred for a canine and non-intrusive imaging system inspection resulting in the discovery of 22 packages containing 13.80 pounds of alleged methamphetamine concealed within the conveyance. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $276,015.
The narcotics have a combined estimated street value of $1,010,587.
CBP seized the narcotics and one vehicle. The cases were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
