Trump Slams India’s Tariffs On American Products, Says Country Has Been Having A ‘Field Day’

President Donald Trump on Twitter Tuesday expressed his discontent with India’s tariffs on U.S. goods.

India and the Trump administration have been engaged in a trade war for the past few months, after Trump complained of what appears to be one-way tariffs coming from the Hindu nation.

“India has long had a field day putting Tariffs on American products. No longer acceptable!” he said.

U.S.-India trade relations are valued at over $142 billion and India makes away with the better deal, netting around $54 billion, while the U.S. only made around $33 billion. India reportedly imposes tariffs as high as 150% on some U.S. goods, according to a CNN Business report.

Trump chastised India on a similar claim in 2017 when he said they taxed Harley Davidson Motorcycles at a 100% tariff rate.

“They told me — without even complaining because they have been mistreated for so long that they have become used to it — that it is very hard to do business with other countries because they tax our goods at such a high rate,” Trump said. “They said that in one case another country taxed their motorcycles at 100%,” the Journal Sentinel reports.

The U.S. had preferential tariffs on $6 billion worth of Indian goods, but India did not return the favor. Trump rescinded these tariffs in early June.

India hit back on June 16 when they raised tariffs on 28 U.S. products that are commonly exported, according to Reuters.
