Did Bill Weld’s Campaign Manager Resign A Month Ago? Here’s What We Know

Republican 2020 presidential candidate Bill Weld’s campaign manager apparently quietly resigned June 14 after serving in the position for two months.

Jennifer Horn, a former chairwoman of the New Hampshire Republican Party, was Weld’s campaign manager from April 15 to June 14. An article written by Horn and published by USA Today was updated to mention Horn’s affiliation to Weld. Horn wrote an opinion piece for USA Today which ripped apart the Republican Party and President Donald Trump.

“Trump has transformed the party of Lincoln into a racist, nationalist movement that divides and destroys,” Horn wrote in her anti-Trump piece on July 19. “And silent Republicans are letting him do it.”

Former Massachusetts Gov. Weld has been launching a quiet attack as he prepares to challenge Trump for the 2020 presidential candidacy, and it appears as though Horn left her position in Weld’s campaign just as silently. There have been no reports on Horn leaving Weld’s campaign. USA Today updated the piece with an editor’s note which added in Horn’s affiliation to Weld.

Weld has put down Trump since deciding to run for 2020 president, calling his approach to governing “appalling,” according to the Washington Post.

The updated article reads:

The Washington Post appears unaware that Horn resigned as campaign manager as well. An article written June 17 writes that “Jennifer Horn, a former chairwoman of the New Hampshire GOP, is his [Weld’s] campaign manager.”

On Horn’s official Twitter page, she does not list herself as a campaign manager in her bio.

Horn is also still listed as Weld’s campaign manager on BallotPedia, a nonprofit “digital encyclopedia of American politics and elections” written by “a team of professional researchers, writers, and elections analysts.” Weld endorsed former President Barack Obama in 2008 before changing course and endorsing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in 2012 for president.

“My heart breaks as I sit here today in the final moments of a slow, three-year realization that the party of Lincoln is nearly dead, consumed by the ugly, destructive conduct of a dishonest, corrupt man who wears the stolen badge of Republicanism, transforming a once-great party into a racist nationalist movement that uses hate and fear to divide and destroy,” Horn wrote in her USA Today opinion piece, written about a month after resigning as Weld’s campaign manager.

It is not known who, if anyone, has replaced Horn as Weld’s new campaign manager.

Bill Weld’s campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Horn did not respond to a request for comment through direct message on her official Twitter account.
