Trump: Money from Border Deal ‘Will Be Hooked Up With Lots of Money from Other Sources’

President Trump announced Tuesday evening that while the “agreement in principle” on border funding only includes about $1.4 billion for barriers, there is much more coming from “other sources.”

“Was just presented the concept and parameters of the Border Security Deal by hard working Senator Richard Shelby,” the president posted on Twitter. “Looking over all aspects knowing that this will be hooked up with lots of money from other sources.”

The president went on in a second tweet to say that they “will be getting almost $23 BILLION for Border Security. Regardless of Wall Money,” but details about the source of the funds or if it will be available for physical barriers is unclear.

Trump’s comments come after details of the potential deal revealed that the Border Patrol would only get a fraction of the money they requested for physical barriers and that Democrats intend to reduce the number of detainees ICE is allowed to hold. That deal would allow Democrats to claim they have taken steps towards eliminating ICE while Trump is unable to claim victory on border security.

This is the Democrats’ plan to re-implement “catch-and-release,” plain and simple.

The change in funding for detainment space is the most troubling. The deal would lower the number of beds from about 49,000 to 40,000. That means that about 9,000 illegals would be released into the country immediately and any illegal aliens caught afterward would have to be released if no detention space were available. This is the Democrats’ plan to re-implement “catch-and-release,” plain and simple.

“Remember, the problem right now isn’t people crossing the border illegally. It’s people presenting themselves to border patrol agents – people who want to get apprehended – so they can lodge a frivolous asylum claim,” RJ Hauman, government relations director at FAIR explained. “They know we don’t have the detention space so we just release them into the interior of the country.”

“It was troubling to see that Republicans were even negotiating on detention space,” Hauman continued.

It is most likely that Democrats inserted the ICE detainment limit as a “poison pill” hoping that Trump rejects the deal, and he just might.

At a Make America Great Again Rally in El Paso, Texas, Monday evening, Trump said that he would “never sign a bill that forces the mass release of island criminals into our country.”
