Poll: 55% of Americans Say the Country’s Best Days Are Ahead

A recent Gallup poll reveals that 55 percent of Americans believe that “America’s best days are ahead of us.”

In a poll conducted June 18-24, Gallup asked 1,505 adults, “When you think about the future of the United States — which do you agree with more — [ROTATED: the country’s best years are ahead of us (or) the country’s best years are behind us]?”

Fifty-five percent of respondents replied, “ahead of us.”

On the political side, The poll revealed that 69 percent of Republicans, 54 percent of Independents, and 47 percent of Democrats feel that the countries best days are ahead of us.

It’s important to note Americans are generally more likely to say the best days are ahead of them when a president of their own political party is in the White House. According to Gallup, “In 2012, Democrats answered nearly identically to how Republicans do today (69% of Democrats said the best days were ahead, while 28% said they were in the past).”

Gallup further ound that 38 percent of respondents are satisfied with the direction of the country – a 12-year high, which correlates with the job market. It’s worth noting this is a 15-point increase from December 2012, when only 23 percent of people were satisfied with the direction of the country.

Results for this Gallup poll are based on telephone interviews conducted June 18-24, 2018, with a random sample of 1,505 adults, aged 18 and older, living in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. For results based on the total sample of national adults, the margin of sampling error is ±3 percentage points.
