The U. S. Border Patrol Buffalo Station is accepting applications for its upcoming Citizens Academy beginning August 25, 2018, located at 600 Colvin Woods Parkway, Tonawanda, N.Y.
The Citizens Academy is a community outreach program designed to provide local residents the opportunity to learn more about the U.S. Border Patrol and its role in protecting the Nation’s Borders.
“Our Citizens Academies offer a great way for the public to have a better understanding of what, how and why we do the job that we do, “ said Patrol Agent in Charge, Jeffrey Wilson, “We are proud to be part of the Western N.Y. community and look forward to hosting as many people as possible.”
Interested persons from all walks of life, including college students and business professionals, are welcome to attend. The academy is six weeks in duration with the first session beginning at 9:00 a.m. and subsequent sessions recurring every Saturday. The academy covers the same subjects learned at the U.S. Border Patrol Academy to include agency history, mission, immigration and all federal laws. Operational aspects and use-of-force-disciplines will also be instructed. The academy session ends with a ceremony and the presentation of graduation certificates.
There is no fee for admission into the academy and participants will be selected on a first-come, first served basis. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and may also be subject to a background check.
Those interested in attending are encouraged to call the Buffalo Border Patrol Station at (716) 862-7000 and ask for the Citizens Academy.
