In a perfect example of how the know-it-all schmucks who are tasked with the NCAA’s weekly power ratings, the mighty Oklahoma Sooners were upset on Saturday by the Iowa State Cyclones.
Oklahoma had been predicted to be one of the few teams that are capable of beating back an Alabama Crimson Tide juggernaut whose march to college football immortality was derailed by former Clemson star DeShaun Watson in January.
Watson is now lighting up scoreboards with the NFL’s Houston Texans and his old team somehow jumped Nick Saban’s Tide which was coming off of a 66-3 demolition of Ole Miss in last week’s rankings.
One team that is not likely to match up well with a scorned Crimson Tide is the third-ranked Sooners who gagged at home in Norman by a 38-31 tally to the unheralded team from Ames, way out in America’s flyover states.
Via ESPN “Oklahoma’s playoff hopes take blow with stunning loss to Iowa State”:
Behind a third-string quarterback and an iron-man linebacker, Iowa State pulled off the upset of the season on Saturday, stunning third-ranked Oklahoma in Norman 38-31.
The Cyclones also turned the Big 12 race, shook up the College Football Playoff conversation and sent the Sooners spiraling into the Red River Showdown.
With 2:19 to play, Kyle Kempt tossed a 25-yard touchdown pass to Allen Lazard, who leapt over a pair of Sooners defenders to come down with the game-winning reception.
The reaction wasn’t pretty – Unless you are either an ISU fan or loving it seeing the NCAA get their noses rubbed into a big pile of it.
