NBC News’ Megyn Kelly lost her gig as the host for the Sandy Hook Promise Champions Gala due to her interview with controversial conspiracy show host Alex Jones.
“Sandy Hook Promise cannot support the decision by Megyn or NBC to give any form of voice or platform to Alex Jones and have asked Megyn Kelly to step down as our Promise Champion Gala host,” said Nicole Hockley, co-Founder, and Managing Director. “It is our hope that Megyn and NBC reconsider and not broadcast this interview.”
The group was upset with Kelly’s decision to interview Jones because of his belief that the Sandy Hook shooting was faked.
“This decision was spurred by NBC’s planned broadcast of Kelly’s interview with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, who believes the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT, was a hoax,” the group said in a statement.
NBC and Kelly have been under fire ever since a preview of Sunday night’s interview aired. JP Morgan Chase pulled ads from the show and JPM Chief Marketing Officer Kristin Lemkau blasted them on Twitter.
“As an advertiser, I’m repulsed that @megynkelly would give a second of airtime to someone who says Sandy Hook and Aurora are hoaxes. Why?” Kristin then links to Megyn’s tweet announcing the interview.
Kelly issued a statement on Twitter defending the interview.
