President Trump warned there is a chance of “major conflict with North Korea.”
The president made the comment in an interview with Reuters that was published Thursday evening, just after members of Trump’s national security team briefed all 100 U.S. senators on the “urgent threat” posed by North Korea.
President Trump believes that solving the North Korea problem without armed conflict is preferable, but not easy. “We’d love to solve things diplomatically but it’s very difficult,” he said.
While North Korea poses no threat the United States at present, it is spending the majority of its resources to gain the ability to do so. In the interim, U.S. interests in the region such as Japan and South Korea face direct threats from Kim Jong-un’s military.
A poll released Thursday showed that Americans believe the North Korea is the top threat to national security and that military action will likely be the best way to eliminate it.
U.S. administrations have for decades placated the hermit nation to no avail and now president Trump and his able cabinet are using the tough talk that Bush, Clinton, Bush, and Obama should have used to prevent the current situation.
