Sessions cuts off sanctuary cities

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions told reporters Monday that ‘sanctuary cities’ will be cut-off from federal funds.

Sessions made the announcement at the White House Press Briefing during which he said that cities that don’t cooperate with federal authorities on illegal immigration will lose access to justice department grants.

“Such policies cannot continue. They make our nation less safe by putting dangerous criminals back on the streets,” Sessions said.

This statement comes just days after a 14-year-old girl was raped in Rockville, Maryland by two illegal aliens that were freed in 2016 under Obama’s catch-and-release policy.

The attorney general also asked Maryland to stop its consideration to become a sanctuary state as just such a bill moves through the legislature.

“I would plead with the people of Maryland to understand this makes the state of Maryland more at risk for violence and crime, that it’s not good policy.”

Maryland’s governor has pledged to veto the measure if it makes it to his desk.

The action likely came as a result of an executive order signed by President Trump in January allowing the Department of Justice to limit grant money to jurisdictions claiming sanctuary status.

Sessions remarks are at the beginning of Monday’s ‘Spicey Bits’ press briefing highlights below.
