Age a Factor in How Americans Get Their News

While many Americans consume news online, many still prefer to get it from television.

A study released Wednesday shows that 57% of Americans prefer to get their news from television with cable news outlets Fox, CNN and MSNBC their first choices.

The report also found that 62% of Americans get their news from Facebook, Blogger, LinkedIn, Twitter and other social media.

Print newspapers are heading to extinction as traditional print outlets have digitized their content on websites. While some larger traditional outfits like The Wall Street Journal have installed paywalls that force readers to pay for content, top online news sources Yahoo News, The Huffington Post and Fox News remain free.

Age plays a part in how news is consumed. Television remains the best way to target older Americans while social media is quickly becoming the news source of choice for younger news watchers.
