WikiLeaks: state actor cut Julian Assange’s internet access

WikiLeaks used its twitter account early Monday morning to announce that founder Julian Assange’s internet access has been severed by a ‘state actor.’

Three tweets that preceded the announcement included a single subject and a cryptic string of text which many speculate to be a sort of ‘dead man’s switch.’

John Kerry is the current U.S. Secretary of State, the U.K. Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) has similar responsibilities for the United Kingdom and Assange has been staying at the Ecuadorian embassy in London for the past four years.

Technology website Gizmodo said, the codes “are proof to anyone reading the documents in the future that their contents remain unchanged.” That means that, had WikiLeaks altered the leaked information, the codes would have changed, said Gizmodo. Thus, it’s believed WikiLeaks offered the odd codes as proof the information was not altered.

According to the New York Post, officials aren’t commenting on the situation:

Calls, texts and emails left with WikiLeaks weren’t immediately returned Monday. A woman who picked up the phone at the embassy said: “I cannot disclose any information.” An email to Ecuador’s ambassador wasn’t immediately answered. London’s Metropolitan Police declined comment.

WikiLeaks has been releasing emails from Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta’s account and is thought to have as many as 40,000 more documents to release before the election leading to speculation that something may have happened to Assange.

It is also suspected that this is another one of Julian’s publicity stunts meant to garner maximum attention ahead of additional releases.
