In a press conference late Saturday, Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Chief Putney said that they would be releasing the video within the hour.
The chief said that he believed the investigation had come to a place where he felt that he could release some of the dashboard camera and body camera video from the police-involved shooting of Keith Lamont Scott in Charlotte last Thursday.
Protesters have been demanding that the video be released by chanting “release the tapes” in marches the last few nights in uptown Charlotte.
It is expected that only a portion of the video evidence will be released and that it may not offer direct evidence as to whether or not Scott was in possession of a firearm. Chief Putney explained that other evidence will be included that will make it evident that the officers acted appropriately.
We will share the video once it is released to the media.
