Governor Christie, Take A Hike

Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey job’s approval has fallen from a peak of 74 percent in February 2013 even as he won a second term in Democratic-leaning New Jersey and speculation increased about a possible 2016 presidential run. His numbers declined as he became embroiled in an inquiry over possible political motivations behind traffic tie-ups at the George Washington Bridge. When voters were asked whether they regarded Christie as honest and trustworthy, 46 percent said yes, 49 percent said no. Asked if he cares about their needs and problems, 47 percent agreed, and 49 percent did not.

To tell you the truth, I was on the fence about Christie running for president, but not anymore. I sought of gave him a pass when he hugged Obama after super storm Sandy hit the East Coast, I figured he was just making a play to get more money for his state. But now, he has done something that makes me say, “Throw this guy in the trash bin.” While Governor Christie is head of the Republican Governors Association, he refuses to back the Republican candidate for governor of New York Rob Astorino and is said to be supporting current governor Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat.

I have to ask why is he the head of the Republican Governors Association if he won’t support Republican candidates for governor, I thought his job was to help elect more Republican governors. Another question, why does he even call himself a Republican in the first place? He has a liberal record on guns, abortion, homosexual marriage and global warming, maybe that makes him a Conservative in the state of New Jersey, but not in my book.

Thank God there are other Republican governors who remain true to their code, among the GOP governors planning to campaign — and raise funds — on Astorino’s behalf are Mike Pence of Indiana, Rick Perry of Texas and Scott Walker of Wisconsin, good for them. Astorino spokeswoman Jessica Proud said, “Governor Jindal believes this race is winnable by Rob, and he wants to come in, and he’ll be doing the fundraising event for us.’’

Another disappoint to me is Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani who also has declined to endorse Republican gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino and plans to sit out the race. Giuliani has had close political and personal ties to Cuomo and his father, former Gov. Mario Cuomo. In 1994, Giuliani crossed party lines to back Mario Cuomo’s failed bid for a fourth term, losing to George Pataki, maybe Giuliani’s curse on the Cuomo clan will work again and the Republican will win.

At a time when Republicans should be closing ranks and banding together in support of their candidates, it seems they are jumping ship like rats, no wonder why Republicans can’t win a race. I have to admit Christie does not take any crap and he speaks up when challenged and the Republican Party needs people like that, strong people that won’t back down. Unfortunately, Christie is a Conservative in his mind only, in reality, he is just another RINO. I think we can do better.

This is one man’s opinion.
