What All Big Gov’t Types Have In Common

In our so called divided Government, here in The United States, we, unfortunately, are forced to tolerate the incessant division, and unconstitutional legislation, which is so synonymous, today, with these God Forsaken Parties; and, so often, we hear, “The GOP are doing this,” or “The Democrats are doing that,” while, in almost perfect harmony, their media mouthpieces enable or destroy, depending on what side of the political fence they are on. But, beyond all the noise, and contention, our country has to endure, due to such a factious Government, I have noticed that there is an even broader, philosophical belief, that permeates throughout our citizenry, regardless if one is a Republican or Democrat.

Please consider these great, and insightful, words, spoken by Thomas Jefferson, at his First Inaugural Address:

“Sometimes it is said that man can not be trusted with the government of himself. Can he, then, be trusted with the government of others? Or have we found angels in the forms of kings to govern him”?

In a time, in our country, where a Government permission slip is required to do almost anything, and practically every aspect of our lives, and businesses, are regulated to no end, anyone who ponders these things, surely, must realize that, the so called, “Land of The Free,” doesn’t feel so free these days. If one wants to marry someone they love, they need the Government’s permission; if one wants to drive a car, they need the Government’s permission; if one wants to drink an alcoholic beverage, they need the Government’s permission; if one wants to start a business, they need the Government’s permission; if one wants to engage in a business transaction with another person, the Government, not unlike the mafia, uses force, to insure that they get their cut. And, the list goes on.

We are living in a very sad time, in our country, where, if one person commits an egregious crime, all citizens, via more Government laws and regulations, are treated like potential criminals; and, likewise, if one business, or entity, acts irresponsibly, and causes some financial problems, rather then, merely, punishing the actual perpetrators, all Americans have to pay the price, and have more of their Economic Liberties stripped away.

Perhaps, it is, simply, the nature of Government to continually grow, and to seek out more and more ways to, continually, make themselves appear to be important, and necessary, to the people they govern; but, what is most disconcerting, in my opinion, is to see fellow Americans, constantly, falling for the notion that Government must control people’s lives, and regulate nearly everything they can get their hands on. But, as Jefferson, astutely, pointed out, way back in 1801, if individuals can not be trusted to govern their own lives, how on Earth can they be trusted to govern others? Once a person is elected to office, are they somehow endowed with Divine Powers, that make them more knowledgeable, wiser, or trustworthy, then the rest of us? Is there a ladder, of stairway, that connects legislators directly to Heaven, so that they can ascend and descend, when necessary?

Do we teach our children that, they must forever keep the training wheels on their bicycle, so that they can, forever, mitigate the risk of hurting themselves? Do we teach our children that, they should, forever, live at home, because life, at times, can be difficult, and to insure their safety, they should never live on their own? These answers are obvious; of course we don’t! We teach our children to be independent, and responsible citizens. We do not teach them to be needy and dependent individuals, who need to be constantly controlled and looked after. And, to that extent, we do not need Government Overlords, either, to run every aspect of our lives, as if We, The People, are a bunch of adolescents, who can not be left to Govern, and regulate our own lives.

For those of us who still hold onto, and trust in, the American spirit of rugged Individualism; and, whom believe in the sovereignty of the Individual, these ideals are enduring, and do not have to be explained; but, for those in our citizenry, who have been conditioned to believe that BIG GOVERNMENT is the answer to almost every imaginable problem, sadly, “the common thread tends to be an almost total mistrust in the Individual.”

When one does not trust Individuals to Govern their own lives, and favors a BIG GOVERNMENT footprint over the sovereignty of the Individual, then, whether they want to admit it or not, such people neither believe in Freedom, or The American Experiment. And, in the words of George Washington, it is “a triumph for the advocates of despotism to find that we are incapable of governing ourselves, and that systems founded on the basis of equal liberty are merely ideal and fallacious.”
